Magazine Luiza is one of the largest Brazilian retail companies with a revenue of ~12 billion BRL a year (2016). I was part of the Luizalabs the innovation center of Magazine Luiza.

Working at Magazine Luiza I achieved the following:

• Created the "Labs School" where I gathered people to share and learn about tech topics, this project was incorporated in the Magazine Luiza culture later on.
• Led the development of "Magazine Voce", actively discussing with the Product Owner how to improve our platform
• Helped the Magazine Voce (social e-commerce) to grow 250% in 2 years - Implemented an automated payment system that helped our sellers receive their money faster
• Decreased the cloud costs by 30% with application optimizations
• Increased the performance of the application by 40% with database optimizations, better algorithms and better usage of the available resources
• Worked on the Magazine Luiza checkout to create a unified application used by our seller channels
• Improved my communication and leadership skills
• Learned more about search engines such as Solr and ElasticSearch

Technical Stack: We used Python as the main programming language in the backend and Javascript to our frontend applications, the backend used web frameworks like Django, Muffin/Aiohttp, Bottle and the frontend was mostly written with ReactJS and Redux to manage the state. We were using Amazon Cloud Services, our services were hosted with EC2, SQS as the message broker to our background tasks with Celery, S3 to static storage, Route 53 for DNS management, CloudWatch to monitor and create auto-scaling triggers for our services, and ElasticCache with Redis and Memcache to our web cache system. We used Solr and ElasticSearch as search engines and Amazon RDS service to our relational data.
